Fed Policy Outlook and Market Reaction
The US dollar softened following remarks by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, who refrained from providing clear signals regarding further rate hikes or an imminent pause. Investors adjusting to the absence of confirmation for aggressive rate expectations reacted to the rejection of a pre-committed policy path. Warsh emphasized that future decisions will not be pre-announced and will instead be evaluated individually at the October and December meetings.

This approach marks a departure from prior Fed practices and increases overall market uncertainty regarding future rate paths. Additionally, Warsh highlighted financial stability risks, noting his sensitivity to legacy issues from the global financial crisis. This cautious stance on potential systemic risks reduced the appeal of the dollar, while supporting risk assets and competing currencies.

Warsh pointed out that monetary policy is tightening simultaneously across multiple jurisdictions, reinforcing the view that inflation is a global challenge. Consequently, the anticipated policy gap between the Fed and other central banks may not widen as significantly as dollar bulls expected. If the European Central Bank, Bank of England, and Bank of Japan continue tightening, the narrowing US rate advantage will likely support the euro, pound, and yen.
Regarding domestic economic conditions, Warsh expressed relative optimism, citing structural growth, rising investment, and productivity enhancements driven by artificial intelligence. However, he cautioned that the initial impact of AI will materialize on the demand side, echoing earlier warnings about potential economic overheating. Given September consumer inflation data showing headline CPI at 3.7% and core CPI at 2.6%, alongside producer prices rising 6.3% year-on-year, the absence of hawkish reinforcement caused the dollar to lose its footing.
EUR/USD Technical Outlook
For EUR/USD, buyers must reclaim the 1.1241 resistance level to target subsequent tests at 1.1275 and 1.1310. Sustained upward momentum will require backing from large market participants. On the downside, initial support is anticipated near 1.1193, with deeper downside targets located at 1.1156 and 1.1117.
GBP/USD Technical Outlook
Pound buyers need to clear immediate resistance at 1.3310 to open a path toward 1.3340 and the extended target area at 1.3370. Conversely, if bears manage to seize control below the 1.3275 support level, the resulting breakdown would undermine bullish momentum and potentially drive GBP/USD toward support levels near 1.3230 and 1.3200.
