EUR/USD Analysis: Rebound Faces Resistance Ahead of US Data

EUR/USD started November with a 0.5% gain to 1.1237, rebounding from a yearly low of 1.1104 registered on October 29. However, fundamental indicators suggest this move represents a tactical relief rally driven by falling energy prices and pre-election position-squaring rather than a structural trend reversal.

Key Drivers Behind the Euro Rebound

Lower crude oil prices provided initial support for the euro, with Brent falling roughly 3% to $110 per barrel following diplomatic progress between the U.S. and Iran. Reduced energy costs ease stagflationary pressures for the net-energy-importing Eurozone. Concurrently, market participants trimmed U.S. dollar long positions and Treasury yields eased slightly ahead of the U.S. midterm elections on November 3.

Eurozone Fundamentals and ECB Outlook

Eurozone macro data remains mixed, offering limited support for sustained euro strength. While Eurozone Q3 GDP beat expectations at 0.4% quarter-on-quarter and unemployment held steady at 6.5%, German inflation slowed to 2.8% in October. Divergent performance persists across member states, highlighted by France's 0.1% Q3 contraction and Fitch's recent sovereign outlook downgrade to negative, which expanded 10-year French-German yield spreads to 165 basis points.

Federal Reserve and Rate Differentials

The Federal Reserve maintained rates at 3.75–4.00% on October 28 with two votes for a hike, backed by robust U.S. Q3 annualized GDP growth of 3.4%. The current monetary policy gap leaves a 150 basis point differential in favor of the dollar. If slowing German inflation forces the ECB to pause while the Fed hikes in December, this spread could widen to 175 basis points, reinforcing underlying dollar dominance.

Upcoming Risk Events and Technical Outlook

Market focus now turns to the U.S. midterm elections on November 3 and the October U.S. employment report on November 6. A strong U.S. jobs report would bolster expectations for further Fed tightening, while market volatility surrounding the election results could trigger short-term swings across major currency pairs.

Technically, EUR/USD remains in a broader downtrend, trading below its 50-day (1.1323), 100-day (1.1411), and 200-day (1.1482) EMAs. The current bounce tests major resistance in the 1.1268–1.1272 confluence zone, which aligns with the weekly 200 EMA. Immediate support is identified at 1.1171–1.1181, followed by the year-to-date low at 1.1104.
