European stock market close: Soft start

Closing changes for the main European bourses - UK FTSE -0.6% - German DAX -0.5% - French CAC -0.6% - Spain IBEX +0.5% - Italy MIB +0.1% It's a long year but that's not a great way to follow up a strong 2017. On the flipside, the euro and sterling have both had a nice start.
